Link: Command at Major Search Engines<br />

It is always worthwhile to see who is linking to a site. Best bets for running <strong>the</strong> link<br />

command are <strong>the</strong> biggest search engines because, you guessed it, <strong>the</strong>y have <strong>the</strong><br />

biggest databases! If you get too many hits, try limiting <strong>the</strong> search by restricting <strong>the</strong><br />

results to a specific domain or adding a keyword when permitted (Google does not<br />

permit <strong>the</strong> use of keywords with its link: command). All <strong>the</strong>se search engines use <strong>the</strong><br />

same syntax for link searching, i.e., link:, but remember , Yahoo has two link<br />

commands.<br />

Also, <strong>the</strong> Yahoo Site Explorer is extremely good at showing "inlinks" to an entire<br />

domain or just a specific urI. Unlike Google, Yahoo Site Explorer provides all <strong>the</strong><br />

links to a site (which Yahoo calls "inlinks") instead of a limited subset of links.<br />

Yahoo Search:<br />

~ link: restricts results to pages containing links to a specific urI. Yahoo<br />

requires users to enter <strong>the</strong> full urI including <strong>the</strong> http:// for <strong>the</strong> link:<br />
