You can also use <strong>the</strong> Clear Private Data option without closing <strong>the</strong> browser<br />

when you log out of a site where you entered data such as a password, credit card<br />

number, etc., (clearing Au<strong>the</strong>nticated Sessions).<br />

Select Tools I Clear Private Data or use <strong>the</strong> keystroke combination Ctrl+Shift+Del.<br />

• One final comment: all <strong>the</strong>se types of measures are useful and worth taking,<br />

especially since most Internet users do nothing to protect <strong>the</strong>ir privacy and<br />

security. But please do not be lulled into a false sense of security because a<br />

proficient malicious hacker can make hash out of all basic computer security<br />

measures.<br />

Disable "Userdata Persistence"<br />

Userdata Persistence is a feature in Internet Explorer that lets <strong>web</strong>sites "remember"<br />

information you enter, such as search queries. Userdata persistence is an XMLbased<br />

storage methodology for saving large amounts of user data. If you use<br />

Internet Explorer, have you ever come back days or weeks later and find that, as<br />

you type your query, your earlier queries suddenly appear in or below <strong>the</strong> query<br />

box? This is user data persistence at work. Many people manage cookies, but few<br />
