breaks the fourth wall when they speak or refer<br />

awareness <strong>of</strong> their fictional existence. Not strictly a<br />

fanfic term, but a useful one. The fourth wall is<br />

pretty much a shattered ruin in any Subreality story<br />

or metafic.<br />
