Voldemort and his Death Eaters, but that bond is a mystery to<br />
readers, other than the fact that it is a connection between bad<br />
guys. Just about everything known about the Dark Mark is fanon,<br />
along with the idea <strong>of</strong> magical bonds.<br />
4. Comma splices <strong>–</strong> or fanfiction peer review<br />
When Mel wakes up, she usually goes through her morning routine:<br />
brushing her hair, teeth, and putting on clothing. Checking her email is on the<br />
list as well; going through it, she has a mental dialogue <strong>of</strong>, “Spam, spam,<br />
spam, eww, crap, crap, Xander and Andrew?! Why??? crap, oooh! Nice fic!”<br />
Mel is a slash and yaoi fan: she reads fiction, sometimes edits for writers, and<br />
replies with <strong>com</strong>ments and critiques. She is signed up for approximately<br />
twenty-five mailing lists with themes <strong>of</strong> different pairings or fandoms, for<br />
example “nummytreats,” a mailing list to which fiction about Spike and<br />
Xander from the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer is posted. Throughout the<br />
day at least ten fics are sent to Mel’s school account alone, notwithstanding<br />
the replies, <strong>com</strong>ments and simple ordinary messages by the mailing list<br />
members. Mel also has Hotmail and AOL accounts, which she has to check<br />
daily; if she did not, her Hotmail account would bounce, due to the large<br />
amount <strong>of</strong> new messages in her inbox. Mel usually starts reading before her<br />
classes <strong>–</strong> normally at least one fic - then goes to her courses, has lunch, hangs<br />
out with friends and goes to her extra-curricula. She is a senior in college, and<br />
