20 (or 25) posts. Un<strong>like</strong> in a fanfic archive, LiveJournal’s search functions are<br />

only marginal, and stories cannot be found by author or genre. Perhaps it is<br />

this “fleetingness” <strong>of</strong> posts and the lack <strong>of</strong> a sense <strong>of</strong> permanence which may<br />

cause readers to not put as much effort into <strong>com</strong>ments and critiques.<br />

This is an issue that is not undebated within fandom as some fans have<br />

<strong>com</strong>plained about the slew <strong>of</strong> hyper-positive “I love it! I love you!” <strong>com</strong>ments<br />

fanfiction generally known as low quality have received. However, even some<br />

<strong>of</strong> the more involved and active fans have admitted in discussions on<br />

LiveJournal concerning this topic that they felt uneasy <strong>com</strong>menting on a<br />

“private” journal with critique, unless that critique was expressly invited by<br />

the author. In this sense Jenkins’ model <strong>of</strong> supportive peer-review <strong>of</strong>ten<br />

be<strong>com</strong>es defunct, as some authors discourage even partially non-positive<br />

critique on their personal webpages in their fanfiction’s author’s notes section.<br />

3. How-to read<br />

Interesting, to say the least, that this text needs a reading guide, but<br />

there are some details <strong>of</strong> this ethnography’s core left unexplained that might<br />

benefit from being voiced. One <strong>of</strong> these is a number <strong>of</strong> “interactive” boxes<br />

strewn across the following chapters. They are, essentially, paragraphs <strong>of</strong><br />

talkbacks and reactions I asked <strong>of</strong> my friends, the fans featured throughout<br />

this ethnography. Having once established my key concepts <strong>of</strong> framework,<br />

having underlined both self-reflexivity and <strong>com</strong>plexity, I have be<strong>com</strong>e<br />
