To select an airfoil, click the value for the existing airfoil. Next, click the more
options button (the gray folder with the ellipsis). This brings forth an alphabetically
organized list of airfoils for you to select.
Please note: if the airfoil at the tip is different from the airfoil at the root, the two
airfoils will blend along the length of the surface.
AIRFOIL AT TIP-
This setting determines which airfoil the vertical fin will utilize at the tip. The tip of
the tail is the section of the tail furthest from the tail boom.
CHORD AT ROOT-
This option adjusts the chord of the vertical fin at the root. Chord is defined as the
width of the surface; the root of the fin is the section closest to the fuselage. A wider
chord offers increased lift. However, a wider chord also generates more drag when
the aircraft rolls.
To adjust the chord, click the existing value in the value box. Next, enter the desired
value either directly from the keyboard or via the mouse wheel. Larger values will
increase the chord of the fin.
CHORD AT TIP-
This option adjusts the chord of the vertical fin at the tip. The tip of the fin is the
section furthest from the fuselage.
To adjust the chord, click the existing value in the value box. Next, enter the desired
value either directly from the keyboard or via the mouse wheel. Larger values will
increase the chord of the fin.
COMPONENT FRAME-
This value represents the component frame of the item; in this case, the vertical fin.
Clicking on the respective value column will bring forth the pull-down menu
selection of the various Component Frames.
DIHEDRAL (DEG)-
This option adjusts the dihedral of the vertical fin. Dihedral is generally expressed in
degrees. It refers to the v-shaped bend in the fin when viewed from the front of the
aircraft.
To adjust the dihedral, click the existing value in the value box. Next, enter the
desired value either directly from the keyboard or via the mouse wheel. Larger
values will increase the dihedral or v-bend of the fin.
