3. Inspect the animal caref<strong>ul</strong>ly before buying it. These days, it is<br />

seen that the ears of most animals are severed. If more than a<br />

quarter of the ear is severed, the sacrifice will not be valid. If less<br />

than a quarter is severed, or there is a hole in one ear, though<br />

the sacrifice will be valid, in this case it will be Makrūĥ.<br />

4. If possible, sacrifice the animal with your own hands as this is<br />

Sunnaĥ. (Baĥār-e-Sharī’at, vol. 1, pp. 1141) However, you may also<br />

authorize someone else to perform the sacrifice on your behalf 1 .<br />

5. The sacrifice of a camel is preferable as the Beloved Prophet<br />

also sacrificed 63 camels with his own blessed<br />

hands on the occasion of the farewell Hajj. And the rest of the<br />

camels were sacrificed by Sayyidunā Ma<strong>ul</strong>ā ‘Alī ۡ ۡ ۡ <br />

with the consent of the Noble Prophet ٖ <br />

pp. 634, Ḥadīš 1218) It is also narrated that five or six camels were<br />

brought to the Beloved Prophet ٖ <br />

. It is as if they<br />

were all in ecstasy, and each one of them was moving forward<br />

to be slaughtered first. (Abū Dāwūd, vol. 2, pp. 211, Ḥadīš 1765)<br />

6. It is better to tie both front legs and one back leg of the animal.<br />

Untie them after the animal is slaughtered. Make Du’ā for the<br />

acceptance of your Hajj and ritual sacrifice and those of all other<br />

Muslims. (Baĥār-e-Sharī’at, vol. 1, pp. 1141)<br />

7. It is better to perform sacrifice on 10 th Ż<strong>ul</strong>-Ḥijjaĥ, however, it<br />

may be performed on the 11 th and 12 th as well. After the sunset<br />

of the 12 th , the time for this sacrifice ends.<br />
