Questions and answers about use of perfume<br />

Question 1: In the state of Iḥrām, if a person took the bottle of<br />

perfume in his hand, causing some fragrance to come into contact<br />

with his hand, is there any expiation for it<br />

Answer: Seeing this, if people comment that a lot of fragrance has<br />

come into contact with hand, Dam will be Wājib even if it is in<br />

contact with a small part. If very little amount of fragrance comes<br />

into contact with the body, Ṣadaqaĥ will become due.<br />

Question 2: If a Muḥrim applies fragrant oil into his head, what<br />

sho<strong>ul</strong>d he do<br />

Answer: If fragrance comes into contact with the whole of a big<br />

part of the body such as thigh, face, shin or head, Dam will be<br />

Wājib irrespective of whether it happens out of applying fragrant<br />

oil or scent.<br />

Question 3: If fragrance comes into contact with bedding or Iḥrām<br />

or someone else applies it to them, what sho<strong>ul</strong>d be done<br />

Answer: The amount of fragrance sho<strong>ul</strong>d be observed. If the amount<br />

of fragrance is much, Dam will be due; if the amount is less, Ṣadaqaĥ<br />

will be due.<br />

Question 4: If fragrance is applied to the carpet, bedding, pillow or<br />

shawl, etc. of lodging, what sho<strong>ul</strong>d Muḥrim do<br />

Answer: The Muḥrim sho<strong>ul</strong>d avoid using them. If he did not take<br />

care, res<strong>ul</strong>ting in the fragrance coming into contact with any of his<br />

body parts, there will be two different r<strong>ul</strong>ings depending upon the<br />

amount of fragrance. If the amount of fragrance that has come into<br />

contact is much, Dam will be Wājib; if it is less, Ṣadaqaĥ will be
