November 18, 1914. A FAMILY PAPER. i ^ S t a r I V o t e s • SITUATION IN THE LEVANT. In the Christian Nation for this week (Nov. 11) a letter appears from Thos. Cook & Son to Mr. Wm. G. Carson. Since tbe paper went to press we have received information that while they were able to communicate with the London office, that office was unable to reach their'Beirut agent. From letters received from Mersine we learn that $l,O00.OO has been received through the Standard Oil Co. The Boys' School opened as usual, butit was not thought expedient to resume the work of tbe Girls' boarding school. The following is a copy of a message received by tbe American Board from Mr. Peet, their financialagent in Constantinople, and forwarded to us by Mr. Frank H. Wiggin, treasurer ot the American Board. It will be noted tbat tbe cable bad to be transmitted through the State Department: "Washington, D. C, Nov. 9, 1914. "James 'L. Barton, 14 Beacon Street, Boston, Mass.
