Its main teaching focus is graduate education in areas ranging from public health to health policy. Academic programs and attainments include : • MHA Master of Health Administration • MHSc Master of Health Science • MPH Master of Public Health • MSc Master of Science • PhD Doctor of Philosophy • Community Medicine Residency. Masters Courses relevant to Clinical Trials training include: • The Design and Analysis of Clinical Trials. Ethical considerations, intention-to-treat versus efficacy trials, principles of sampling and exclusion, methods of allocation and techniques of randomization, parallel versus cross over design, monitoring treatment outcomes, adverse effects, stopping rules, analytic techniques and data interpretation, and logistical issues in the management of clinical trials. • Clinical Epidemiology. Principles and methods of epidemiology are applied to clinical problems. Evaluation and design of laboratory and clinical tests and of therapeutic interventions. • Clinical Decision Analysis. Methodology in and applicability of clinical decision analysis. Applications in problem solving (screening or prevention program assessment, test of treatment trade-offs, interpreting uncertain clinical data etc). Techniques include decision tree design, sub-trees, marker models, sensitivity analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, threshold analysis, utility assessment including the DEALE. • Clinical Research Methods for Surgical Procedures. The application of randomized trial methods in surgical disciplines and specifically to surgical procedures has been increasing. Relevant courses include: • Health Care Research Methods • Epidemiology of Health Care WRTC is based at six universities in western Canada: University of Alberta, UBC, University of Calgary, University of Manitoba, University of Regina, and University of Saskatchewan.
