OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLLABORATION
The aforementioned has highlighted B.C.’s infrastructure in clinical trials and supporting preclinical
services. The Province’s physicians and companies provide collaborative opportunities for interested
parties, whether they be not-for-profit organizations, governments, or companies. All CTUs, centres, and
study sites would welcome additional studies.
B.C. has a particular capacity for research intensive (high content) clinical trials, with its expertise in biomarker
translation and development and numerous Health Research Centres. The latter include worldclass
facilities in informatics, genomics, proteomics, microarrays, pharmacogenomics, epidemiology,
and health economics. Comprehensive tissue databases and patient registries are aligned with many
Provincial clinical research opportunities and access to these is available to potential collaborators.
Finally, the Province’s single-payer government healthcare program and associated uniform treatment
policies ensures that there are a significant numbers of potential patients who can be asked to participate
in trials.
