COMPARATIVE POSITIONING OF B.C. WITHIN CANADA
Since no other Canadian Province has conducted an in-depth review of its capabilities and infrastructure
for pre-clinical studies and clinical trials, it is difficult to determine how B.C. compares. However, an
indication of the Province’s ranking in clinical trials can found by comparing Canadian population statistics
with the number of studies listed in clintrials.gov (a registry of U.S. federal and privately supported
clinical trials conducted around the world) (Table 16) 33 . Using this surrogate method, B.C. compares
quite well - it has the third largest population in Canada and manages the third highest number of clinical
trials.
