Cardiology
National
Canadian Heart Failure Network (www.chfn.ca) Established in 1999 to improve the current management of heart failure, implement new proven therapies in a timely
manner, and collaborate in innovative research approaches to optimize patient management. Has five B.C. members:
Abbotsford Heart Failure Clinic, Central Okanagan Association for Cardiac Function Office (Kelowna), Penticton Regional
Hospital, Surrey Memorial Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital.
Western Canadian Children’s Heart Network (www.westernchildrensheartnetwork.ca)
International
Network of pediatric cardiac care providers from the four western provinces – B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
Pediatric cardiac surgery is performed at two centres - Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton and B.C. Children's
Hospital. Network follows standard diagnostic, investigation, and referral protocols.
Congenital Heart Surgeons Society (www.chss.org) Not-for-profit charitable corporation based in the US that sponsors and oversees multi-institutional clinical studies;
links and educates investigators; and encourages and stimulates investigation and study that will increase the knowledge
of congenital cardiac physiology, pathology and therapy, and to correlate and disseminate such knowledge.
Pediatric & Congenital Electrophysiology Society (www.pediatricepsociety.org)
International group of physicians and allied professionals dedicated to improving the care of children and young adults
with cardiac rhythm disturbances. The group's primary mission is to foster high-quality collaborative research and exchange
of ideas on arrhythmia topics that are particularly relevant to infants and children. BCCH’s Shubhayan Sanatani
is a member.
Pediatric Heart Network (www.pediatricheartnetwork.com) Part of the US’ National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute of the NIH. Conducts trials to improve outcomes and quality of
life in children who are born with or acquire heart disease.
