Pacific Lung Health Centre The Pacific Lung Health Centre is an academic clinical program located at St. Paul’s Hospital, dedicated to the care for patients with lung disease (www.pacificlung.com). The Centre has research associations with a number of major UBC research facilities (www.ubc.ca), including the James Hogg iCAPTURE Centre for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research (www.icapture.ca), as well as the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Studies (www.cheos.ubc.ca). The Pacific Lung Research Centre is currently conducting clinical trials in various respiratory disease areas, including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Bronchitis and Emphysema), Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis, Chronic Cough, Cystic Fibrosis, Asthma and other areas. CLINICAL TRIALS AND PRECLINICAL INFRASTRUCTURE ASSET MAP 75 VANCOUVER COASTAL HEALTH Vancouver General Hospital Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) is one of Canada’s largest teaching and research hospitals. Clinical research at VGH (and UBC Hospital, described below) is conducted by the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI) (www.vchri.ca), a partnership between Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and the University of British Columbia. Arthritis Research Centre The Arthritis Research Centre of Canada is affiliated with the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute and UBC (www.arthritisresearch.ca). It conducts clinical research and trials related to arthritis diagnosis, prognosis, prevention, care outcomes, and quality of life issues. Centre for Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases Located at VGH, the B.C. Centre for Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases takes a multidisciplinary approach to stroke care, research, and education (www.bcstrokecentre.ca). The Centre offers 24/7 care for stroke victims and conducts Phases I, II, and III clinical trials. It is directed by Dr Phil Teal. His details can be found in Appendix 6. The clinical trials group is comprised of a small team of Stroke Neurologists, Neuro-Interventionalists and Research Coordinators that are involved in multiple acute stroke and stroke prevention trials. Cardiology Research VGH Cardiology Research is an integral part of the VGH/UBC Division of Cardiology. Members of the Division all participate and function as a team for trial recruitment and follow-up. The Cardiology Research clinical trials unit conducts Phase IIa, IIb, and III industry-sponsored clinical trials, as well as registries and investigator-initiated studies. Trials include those investigating new drugs, new indications for established drugs, devices, and treatment strategies (NIH sponsored). Subjects are recruited from the Coronary Care Unit, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and out-patient cardiology clinics. Several hundred patients are enrolled annually. The unit has no independent URL.
