City wide REB approved biorepository for<br />
genitourinary tissues (prostate, urothelial,<br />
renal, <strong>and</strong> testes cancer) as well as serum<br />
<strong>and</strong> plasma bank.<br />
On behalf of the Province, the BCCA<br />
houses the TTR to support translational<br />
cancer research locally, nationally, <strong>and</strong><br />
internationally. The collection includes<br />
tissues, blood, <strong>and</strong> clinical information<br />
from patient donors <strong>and</strong> a range of tumor<br />
types, accrued under carefully crafted<br />
<strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ardized consent, collection <strong>and</strong><br />
operational protocols. A core component<br />
of the Canadian National Tumour Bank<br />
Network, the TTR has so far accrued over<br />
1,500 cases.<br />
Biomarkers of injury/ failure in kidney, liver<br />
<strong>and</strong> heart/lung.<br />
An amalgamation of the Cardiovascular<br />
<strong>and</strong> Pulmonary Registries, the locus for<br />
the registration, triage, <strong>and</strong> photography<br />
of all submitted specimens, including<br />
organs, tissues, cells, proteins or genes,<br />
computer images, or clinical information<br />
from humans, animals, cells, <strong>and</strong> cell-free<br />
systems.<br />
The Eye Care Centre at VGH is the provincial<br />
referral centre for the Eye Donation <strong>and</strong><br />
Cornea Transplant Program; it coordinates<br />
the collection, evaluation, <strong>and</strong> distribution<br />
of donor eyes.<br />
Patient Registries<br />
A number of important national <strong>and</strong> Provincial patient registries are housed in B.C., with a breakdown<br />
according to disease area shown in Figure 13. Details can be found in Appendix 8.
