A survey of the structure and operation of government in the United States at all levels:<br />

national, state, and local. (Formerly POL 211)<br />

POL 257. SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC ISSUES BEFORE THE COURT Three hours credit<br />

A study of the changes being wrought through the judicial process as to rights of individuals<br />

with special focus on minorities. Such issues as fundamental liberties, the criminally accused,<br />

family matters, morality, consumer rights, environmental pollution, sex discrimination and political<br />

representation are also examined. (Formerly POL 230)<br />

POL 321. BEHAVIORAL STATISTICS<br />

Three hours credit<br />

A study of descriptive statistics, which includes frequency distributions, measures of central<br />

tendency and variability, the normal curve and standard scores, and inferential statistics with the<br />

emphasis on hypothesis testing using the normal deviate test, t-test, one-way analysis of variance,<br />

and chi-square. The course also introduces regression, correlation, and probability.<br />

A course focused on the politics of international economic relations. Various theories,<br />

processes, structures, and issues will be examined for their value in helping to understand and<br />

evaluate the historical development and current operation of the world economy.<br />

POL 334. INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS<br />

An exploration of the many and various kinds of international organizations both political<br />

and economic that dominate the global community with special focus on the United Nations, the<br />

European Union, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.<br />

POL 345. COMPARATIVE GOVERNMENTS<br />

A comparison of differing forms of government in the international community with a look<br />

at the science of comparative politics. Recommended: POL 255. Offered Fall Semester.<br />

POL 346. THE DEVELOPING WORLD<br />

A course that explores the unique issues, challenges, and solutions as faced by countries in<br />

the developing world. Various theories, processes, structures, and issues will be examined for<br />

their value in helping to understand and evaluate the historical development and current position<br />

of the two-thirds world.<br />

POL 351. STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS<br />

A survey of the structure and operation of all branches of government in the United States at<br />

the state and local levels. Recommended: POL 255. (Formerly POL 437)<br />

POL 353. THE CONGRESS<br />

Three hours credit<br />

A study of the legislative branch of the United States government focusing on its history,<br />

political institutions, leadership, and the legislative processes in general. Recommended: POL<br />

255.
