A survey designed to acquaint the student with the underlying principles, major theories<br />
and methods commonly employed in individual counseling. Prerequisite: PSY 302. Offered<br />

PSY 452. TECHNIQUES OF COUNSELING<br />
Three hours credit<br />
A course that deals with becoming and being a counselor by examining the various agencies,<br />
styles, techniques, problems and categories of counseling. Prerequisite: PSY 451. Offered<br />
Spring Semester.<br />
PSY 460/470. PRACTICUM IN TEACHING PSYCHOLOGY<br />
Three hours credit<br />
A practicum which gives qualified students the opportunity to gain teaching experience,<br />
enhance their knowledge of psychology, and acquire skills that make them more attractive<br />
to graduate schools. (Requires recommendation of professor)<br />

Special seminars on specific issues related to psychology, taught on an occasional basis<br />

A course designed to be a culminating experience to the psychology major, with particular<br />
emphasis on integrating psychology and Christian faith, finding one’s place of ministry,<br />
and a discussion of ethical and professional issues.<br />

SOC 200. UNDERSTANDING CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY Three hours credit<br />
A study of sociological concepts and social institutions with an emphasis on social problems<br />
and social and cultural change. The course is taught within the context of Christian<br />
responsibility and social action.<br />
SOC 212. SOCIAL PROBLEMS<br />
Three hours credit<br />
A study of major contemporary social problems, their nature, bases, consequences, and<br />
alternative solutions. Required of all students majoring in sociology or social science. Offered<br />

SOC 220. COURTSHIP, MARRIAGE, AND THE FAMILY<br />
Three hours credit<br />
An introductory study of dating, courtship, marriage, preparation for marriage, the selection<br />
of a marriage partner, the roles of members of the family, family rituals, and patterns of<br />
interaction. Offered Fall Semester.<br />
SOC 310. CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY<br />

An introduction to various aspects of culture including material, social, economic,<br />
esthetics, political, religious, and linguistic factors. Offered Fall Semester.<br />

A study designed to promote understanding of and to stimulate students’ interest in<br />
human services by exploring the nature, roles, values and responsibilities of “people helpers.”<br />

SOC 312. SOCIAL WORK METHODS<br />

A study of techniques, methods, and procedures of social work. Prerequisite: SOC 311.<br />

SOC 320. SOCIOLOGY OF THE FAMILY<br />
Three hours credit<br />
A study of the origin and ethology of the family, background of the modern American<br />
family, social changes and the family roles of members of the family, and problems of family<br />
life. Offered Spring Semester.<br />
SOC 321. BEHAVIORAL STATISTICS<br />
Three hours credit<br />
A study of descriptive statistics, which includes frequency distributions, measures of<br />
central tendency and variability, the normal curve and standard scores, and inferential statistics<br />
with the emphasis on hypothesis testing using the normal deviate test, t-test, one-way<br />
analysis of variance, and chi-square. The course also introduces regression, correlation, and<br />
probability. Prerequisite: MAT 111 - College Algebra. Offered Fall semester.
