BIO 311. ENTOMOLOGY<br />

Four hours credit<br />

An introductory study of the basic structures, functions, development, behavior, diversity<br />

and control of insects. Emphasis will be placed upon biodiversity and the major roles<br />

played by these arthropods. When offered as a part of the Summer of Studies in Medical<br />

Missions, the emphasis will be on medical relationships and identification. 150 minutes lecture<br />

and 110 minutes lab per week. Prerequisite: BIO 112 or BIO 103. Offered on demand.<br />

BIO 321. HEALTH PROFESSIONS INTERNSHIP<br />

One hour credit<br />

A course that provides opportunities for students entering the delivering of health care at<br />

a variety of health facilities prior to entering professional schools. These supervised opportunities<br />

will allow students to better understand the distinctions of their chosen profession and<br />

to become more aware of how their profession will integrate into the larger health care delivery<br />

environment. Limited to juniors and seniors who possess a strong commitment to a<br />

given health profession. Offered every semester.<br />

BIO 323. ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE<br />

Four hours credit<br />

An application of the basic principles of horticulture as employed in the care and science<br />

of landscaping and home gardening. On-site learning opportunities are provided, including<br />

site selection and preparation, plant selection, planting and care, and economic consideration.<br />

Each student is required to complete one landscape project from start to finish.<br />

Prerequisite: BIO 111. Offered on demand.<br />

BIO 342. GENETICS<br />

Four hours credit<br />

Basic principles of heredity with emphasis on their application to plant and animal<br />

breeding and human birth defects. Drosophila are used in laboratory experiments. 150 minutes<br />

lecture and 110 minutes lab per week. Prerequisites: BIO 111-112. CHY113 or CHY 281<br />

recommended. Offered every semester.<br />

BIO 351. HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY<br />

Three hours credit<br />

A course designed to present the fundamental principles of physiology for students in<br />

biology, nursing, pharmacy, pre-med, pre-dental, or other allied health professionals. It is<br />

designed to integrate and synthesize physiological processes among the different systems.<br />

Prerequisites: BIO 112, CHY 111-112. Offered Fall Semester, on demand.<br />

BIO 380. INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH<br />

Two hours credit<br />

Fundamentals of scientific research including the scientific method, experimental design,<br />

statistical analysis, scientific literature, and writing a scientific paper. Offered on demand.<br />

BIO 381. RESEARCH<br />

One hour credit<br />

The application of the fundamentals of scientific research including the utilization of<br />

proper procedures, techniques, and equipment deemed necessary to effectively conduct a<br />

selected research project, gather data, and prepare a written and oral presentation of the<br />

research findings. Prerequisite: BIO 380. Offered on demand.<br />

A course designed to improve the likelihood of acceptance and subsequent success of<br />

students seeking to enter professional or graduate programs. It is particularly designed to<br />

assist students in doing the right things at the right time and contacting the appropriate<br />

persons in an effective manner. It is also intended to enhance exit exam scores on the academic<br />

assessment tests or related exams required for graduation by <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Offered<br />

every semester.<br />

BIO 390. SPECIAL TOPICS IN BIOLOGY<br />

One -four hours credit<br />

A course used to comply with requests for special topics and advanced studies in biology.<br />

Lecture and laboratory hours will vary with the courses taught. May be repeated for credit.<br />
