CIS 101. INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER-BASED SYSTEMS Three hours credit<br />
An overview of computer information systems. This survey course introduces computer<br />
hardware, software, procedures, systems, and human resources and explores their integration<br />
and application in business and in other segments of society. The fundamentals of computer<br />
problem-solving and programming in a higher-level programming language are discussed.<br />
CIS 102. WORD PROCESSING CONCEPTS<br />
One hour credit<br />
A hands-on class for those with little or no knowledge of word processing. This course<br />
introduces the student to word processing and progresses to a level of proficiency so the student<br />
will be able to create documents without assistance. Prior knowledge of computers or<br />
word processing is not necessary.<br />
CIS 103. DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM CONCEPTS<br />
One hour credit<br />
A fundamental hands-on course in the design, creation, and use of databases using a<br />
microcomputer and a database management system (dBase IV). This course introduces the<br />
student to databases and database management systems and progresses so the student will be<br />
able to create and use databases without assistance.<br />
CIS 104. ELECTRONIC SPREADSHEETS CONCEPTS<br />
One hour credit<br />
A hands-on class for those with little or no knowledge of electronic spreadsheets or electronic<br />
spreadsheet processing. This course introduces the student to electronic spreadsheets<br />
and progresses to a level of proficiency so the student will be able to create and use electronic<br />
spreadsheets. Prior knowledge of computers is not necessary.<br />
CIS 201. APPLICATIONS PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT I<br />
Three hours credit<br />
An introduction to computer programming in a business environment. Emphasis on the<br />
fundamentals of structured program design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation<br />
of applications programming. Prerequisite: CIS 101 or permission of instructor.<br />
CIS 202. APPLICATIONS PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT II<br />
Three hours credit<br />
A continuation of CIS 201. Emphasis on structured methodology of program design,<br />
development, testing, implementation, and documentation of common business-oriented<br />
applications programming. Includes coverage of sequential and random access files and processing<br />
techniques and development of programs and systems of programs for batch and interactive<br />
environments. Prerequisite: CIS 201.<br />
CIS 220. INTRODUCTION TO WORD/<br />

INFORMATION PROCESSING<br />
An introduction to word/information processing concepts with hands-on experience on<br />
the microcomputer. Prerequisite: BUS 111.<br />
CIS 221. ADVANCED WORD/INFORMATION<br />

PROCESSING AND RECORDS MANAGEMENT<br />
A study of word/information processing and records management in the electronic office,<br />
with hands-on experience on the microcomputer. Prerequisite: CIS 220.<br />
CIS 230. SYSTEMS ANALYSIS METHODS<br />
Three hours credit<br />
Overview of the system development life cycle. Emphasis on current system documentation<br />
through the use of both classical and structured tools/techniques for describing process<br />
flows, data flows, data structures, file designs, input and output designs, and program specifications.<br />
Prerequisite: CIS 201 or permission of instructor.<br />
CIS 301. ADVANCED PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT<br />
Three hours credit<br />
An advanced presentation of the principles of program design and computer programming<br />
using a modern high-level programming language other than those languages used in CIS 201<br />
and CIS 202. Designed for the student who wishes more exposure to advanced techniques of<br />
programming using a variety of modern computer languages.
