30 ACADEMIC PROGRAMS<br />

Students enrolled in Bachelor of Science programs (5-7 hours total)<br />

• LIN 201 - Language and Culture (3)<br />

Students with the appropriate background in high school foreign<br />

language may take one semester of intermediate foreign language in<br />

lieu of Language and Culture.<br />

Students enrolled in Bachelor of Arts programs (8-10 hours total)<br />

• Intermediate foreign language (6 hours)<br />

FRE 211 and 212 - Intermediate French<br />

GER 211 and 212 - Intermediate German<br />

GRE 311 and 312 - New Testament Greek<br />

SPA 211 and 212 - Intermediate Spanish<br />

Two years of high school foreign language, six hours of elementary<br />

foreign language, or proficiency demonstrated on the departmental<br />

foreign language examination are prerequisites for the intermediatelevel<br />

courses in modern foreign languages. For students taking New<br />

Testament Greek, the first-year requirement is eight hours.<br />

Major Requirements<br />

By the beginning of the junior year, each student should select one subject<br />

area as his or her major field of study (sometimes called the specialty<br />

area) and will complete not fewer than thirty (30) semester hours as his/her<br />

major area requirement. A minimum cumulative average of “C” (2.00) must<br />

be maintained in the major area (2.5 in teacher education programs). Each<br />

transfer student must earn at least 6 semester hours in his/her major area<br />

while in residence at <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong>; Business majors must earn 15 hours at<br />

<strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong>, 6 at the upper level. Students desiring to apply transfer work<br />

or work done through correspondence or continuing education to a major<br />

program must file an academic petition through the office of the dean of the<br />

school in which the major is offered.<br />

Minors<br />

A minor consists of a minimum of eighteen hours in one discipline and<br />

is used to complement the student’s major. Every student graduating from<br />

<strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> completes a minor in religion, but most majors allow enough<br />

flexibility for students to select a second minor. For specific minor requirements,<br />

check the listing in the appropriate department. The university offers<br />

the following minors:<br />

COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES<br />

• Behavioral and Social Sciences: anthropology, counseling,<br />

history, political science, psychology, sociology, and human services<br />

• Business: accounting, business, computer information systems<br />

• Communication and the Arts: communication, drama, art,<br />

and drama ministry
