GST 101. THE FRESHMAN SEMINAR: GATEWAY<br />

TO UNIVERSITY SUCCESS<br />

Two hours credit<br />

This course is designed to equip first–year students for success in the Christian university<br />

community. It will acquaint students with the academic, social, and critical thinking<br />

skills necessary to succeed in college. All first-time <strong>Lee</strong> students who have completed fewer<br />

than 16 credit hours of college work are required to take GST 101.<br />

GST 199. RESIDENT ASSISTANT TRAINING SEMINAR<br />

One hour credit<br />

A seminar and in-service training to provide prospective Resident Assistants the necessary<br />

skills in order to effectively confront the variety of issues of campus life.<br />

GST 200. GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE SEMINAR<br />

One hour credit<br />

This seminar is intended to prepare students for cross-cultural travel and living by providing<br />

a list of opportunities to do so and addressing such issues as cultural differences and<br />

similarities, cross-cultural interaction and communication, cultural shock and adjustment,<br />

and basic language skills.<br />

GST 201. GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE SEMINAR FOR<br />

One hour credit<br />

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS<br />

This seminar is intended to prepare international students for living in the United States<br />

by addressing such issues as cultural differences and similarities, cross-cultural interaction<br />

and communication, and cultural shock and adjustment. While completing their living experience<br />

(GST 251), students will discuss their encounters. International students must complete<br />

the seminar within the first two years of residence in the United States.<br />

GST 251. CROSS-CULTURAL EXPERIENCE<br />

One hour credit<br />

GST 252. CROSS-CULTURAL EXPERIENCE<br />

Two hours credit<br />

GST 253. CROSS-CULTURAL EXPERIENCE<br />

Three hours credit<br />

Participating in a cross-cultural experience including traveling, living and studying<br />

abroad; service learning in an ethnic neighborhood; or first-year residence in the United<br />

States for international students. Proposals for independently arranged experiences must be<br />

approved by the Global Perspectives Committee before enrollment in this course.<br />

International students may consider their encounter with American culture as their crosscultural<br />

experience if previously approved by the Global Perspectives Committee. One hour<br />

credit will be awarded for all domestic experiences (GST 251); two hours credit for all international<br />

experiences (GST 252); and three hours credit for involvement in a full-semester,<br />

study-abroad program (GST 253). Prerequisite: GST 200 or 201.
