PSY 326. PSYCHOLOGICAL RESEARCH METHODS II<br />

Three hours credit<br />

The second course in the research sequence covering how research is done, pitfalls in<br />

research, how to design research studies, collecting data, and writing research reports.<br />

Students will then participate as either research assistants or as collaborators on a psychological<br />

research project. Prerequisite: PSY 325. Offered Spring Semester.<br />

PSY 330. SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY<br />

Three hours credit<br />

A study of social dynamics, interpersonal relationships, and the influence of the social<br />

environment on behavior. Offered every semester.<br />

PSY 340. GERONTOLOGY<br />

Three hours credit<br />

An analysis of aging as a social process in modern society. Areas included are theories of<br />

the process of aging, the various issues and problems of being older, and the experience of<br />

death and dying.<br />

PSY 341. PSYCHOLOGY OF LEARNING<br />

Three hours credit<br />

Explores the many types of learning from simple conditioning to more complex forms of<br />

cognitive behavior. Emphasis is placed on areas of cognitive psychology such as memory, language,<br />

intelligence, problem solving and motivation. Offered every semester.<br />

PSY 350. THE PSYCHOLOGY OF SPORT<br />

Three hours credit<br />

AND HUMAN PERFORMANCE<br />

Presents the application of behavioral principles, motivational research, personality factors<br />

and cognitive processes to the area of sport. It introduces students to this discipline and provides<br />

knowledge to enhance their own performances and the performances of others.<br />

PSY 360. COUNSELING FIELD EXPERIENCE I<br />

Two hours credit<br />

Supervised work experience in a social agency or community program which provides<br />

counseling services. Permission of instructor required. Offered Fall Semester.<br />

PSY 361. COUNSELING FIELD EXPERIENCE II<br />

Two hours credit<br />

Supervised work experience in a social agency or community program which provides<br />

counseling services. Prerequisites: PSY 360 and permission of instructor. Offered Spring<br />

Semester.<br />

PSY 399. HONORS INDEPENDENT STUDY<br />

One–three hours credit<br />

An independent study supervised by three faculty members that provides the student who<br />

qualifies under the honors guidelines the opportunity to pursue a topic of his/her choice.<br />

PSY 401. ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY<br />

Three hours credit<br />

Examines the causes, symptoms, classification, diagnosis and treatment of the many<br />

types of mental disorders. Offered Spring Semester.<br />

PSY 412. HUMAN SERVICES PRACTICUM I<br />

Three hours credit<br />

Supervised field work involving placement of student in a human-services agency for<br />

practical experience. Prerequisites: SOC 311 and 312. Offered every semester.<br />

PSY 413. HUMAN SERVICES PRACTICUM II<br />

Three hours credit<br />

Supervised field work involving placement of student in a human services agency for<br />

practical experience. Prerequisite: PSY 412. Offered every semester.<br />

PSY 423. INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH<br />

Three hours credit<br />

A research workshop providing majors with an opportunity to plan and execute individual<br />

undergraduate research. Students also review and evaluate research representing a wide<br />

range of psychological topics. Prerequisites: PSY 325 and 326. (Registration by approval of<br />

application and permission of instructor.)<br />

PSY 431. MULTICULTURAL COUNSELING<br />

Three hours credit<br />

An exploration of the lives, issues and potential counseling problems of various cultural<br />

groups.<br />

PSY 442. TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS<br />

Three hours credit<br />

A study of the theory and principles of diagnostic testing which give teachers and counselors<br />

direction for their educational and guidance efforts.
