achieve the required cumulative grade point average for the hours attempted<br />

are considered to be in good standing. Those who fail to achieve the required<br />

average will be subject to the following action:<br />

1. A student on academic probation is limited to 12-14 credit hours<br />

each semester.<br />

2. All students on academic probation are reviewed by the Admissions<br />

and Retention Committee. This committee will grant an extension<br />

to probation only when a student’s record demonstrates that such an<br />

extension would benefit the student in removing the probation and<br />

progressing toward graduation.<br />

3. No student will be continued on probation more than two consecutive<br />

semesters, unless approved by the Admissions and Retention<br />

Committee.<br />

4. A student who has been authorized by the Admissions and Retention<br />

Committee to continue on probation may be required to register for<br />

a specified class schedule.<br />

Academic Suspension<br />

A student will be subject to academic dismissal after it becomes evident<br />

to the Admissions and Retention Committee that he/she lacks the necessary<br />

academic qualifications or discipline. Any student who is dismissed for academic<br />

reasons is ineligible for readmission until after one full semester. The<br />

summer sessions are not considered a semester. Students who are suspended<br />

have the right to appeal for reentry if they believe there are valid extenuating<br />

circumstances responsible for their poor academic performance. Appeals<br />

should be put in writing and forwarded to the Chairman of the Admissions<br />

and Retention Committee for review by the committee.<br />

External Studies Program<br />

<strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> offers an External Studies Program, which is an undergraduate<br />

program designed to utilize non-traditional methods of study. Its<br />

basic purpose is to prepare Christian workers in the areas of Bible, theology,<br />

pastoral studies, Christian education, and Urban Ministries.<br />

The program is especially designed for persons who cannot pursue a<br />

traditional resident college program. A bachelor’s degree may be earned<br />

from <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> through the Department of External Studies .<br />

Students pursuing traditional resident degrees at <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

may participate in the external studies program according to the following<br />

provisions:<br />

A. No full-time student may be concurrently enrolled in External<br />

Studies and classroom studies.<br />

B. All summer External Studies courses must be completed by September<br />

11 of each academic year if the student is to be a fulltime<br />

resident student in the fall.
