Designed to develop the theoretical and performance skills necessary in learning the art<br />
of improvisation. This performance-oriented course is specifically for intermediate and<br />
advanced instrumentalists. Prerequisites: MUS 243 and MUS 244.<br />
MUS 486. VOCAL PEDAGOGY PRACTICUM<br />
Three hours credit<br />
Designed to introduce the prospective voice teacher to the basic techniques of vocal pedagogy<br />
and to provide the student with experience in teaching voice to beginning vocal students<br />
while under supervision. Offered Spring Semester.<br />
MUS 487. KEYBOARD PEDAGOGY PRACTICUM<br />

A basic course for upper-level music majors in the B.A. program. The course is designed<br />
to equip students with the pedagogical skills of keyboard instruction and provide an opportunity<br />

A course designed to instruct the student in integrating all church activities, developing<br />
music in churches through the church music school and the multiple choir system. Graded<br />
music is studied for use in Sunday Schools, Vacation Bible Schools, etc. Offered Spring<br />

A study of the administrative role of the minister of music in a fully developed music<br />
program at the local level. This course is designed for the upper-division students in Church<br />

A survey of the various periods and styles of hymnody in the history of the Western<br />
church. Includes textual analysis and a study of the role of congregational singing in worship.<br />

MUS 422. HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF CHURCH MUSIC Two hours credit<br />
A historical survey of the major philosophies and practices (personages, musical forms<br />
and types, styles, and literature) of church music with emphasis on determining, evaluating,<br />
expressing and applying the basic facts and principles involved in an integrated and consistent<br />
attitude toward church music. Offered Spring Semester, even years.<br />
MUS 425. PRACTICUM IN CHURCH MUSIC<br />

This course is designed to provide the church music student with practical experience in<br />
a local church under the supervision of his/her major professor. The student will observe a<br />
working professional and participate on an expanding level of responsibility.
