ACADEMIC PROGRAMS 33<br />

An added feature of the building is the Dixon Pentecostal Research<br />

Center, which houses a comprehensive collection of materials pertaining to<br />

the Church of God and the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement.<br />

Students, faculty, alumni, and church and community members are<br />

served by a staff of eighteen and a student staff of about thirty-five. Services<br />

include telephone and in-person reference assistance, library instruction for<br />

classes, organizing and providing access to a collection of more than 153,000<br />

volumes, 835 current periodicals in print format, and 63,000 microforms and<br />

interlibrary loan access to 43 million titles.<br />

Electronic resources include the on-line catalog and automated circulation<br />

system, which provides the ability to search the local holdings and<br />

those of the Cleveland Public Library in the library, on the World Wide Web,<br />

or by modem. Membership in the Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET)<br />

gives interlibrary loan access to 40 million titles. Electronic subscriptions<br />

via the Internet and CD-ROM give access to more than 1,300 periodical<br />

titles in full text as well as indexing to many others. The Internet is accessible<br />

on workstations throughout the library.<br />

Writing Center<br />

The Department of English and Modern Foreign Languages offers special<br />

assistance in composition and grammar through the Writing Center.<br />

Staffed by faculty members and trained peer instructors, the center offers<br />

assistance on four levels. Students with basic writing problems can find help<br />

with composition, grammar and mechanics. Intermediate students are<br />

assisted in organization and in paragraph and theme development. More<br />

advanced students are aided in research techniques, documentation, and<br />

planning the long paper. Students may bring in creative works for evaluation<br />

and professional suggestions. The Writing Center also provides assistance<br />

for students whose native language is not English.<br />

The Writing Center is equipped with Gateway 2000 computers. Any<br />

<strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> student may use these facilities by making an appointment<br />

in the center. Tutorial sessions are conducted on a one-to-one basis, last for<br />

thirty minutes, and must be scheduled in advance.<br />

Computer Lab<br />

The <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> Academic Computer Lab, located in the Walker<br />

Memorial Building and managed by the Business Department, is a modern<br />

computer lab open to all students. All computers in the lab are IBM compatible<br />

using Windows 95 and are connected to a central server and the World<br />

Wide Web with Novell NetWare 5.0. There are dozens of software packages
