Planning with BD2A/BD2C3.2 System components3.2.5.2 Centre feeder unitsCommon featuresAll centre feeder units have the following common features:Cables can be fed in from three sides. The sectional entry flange with integrated strain reliefcan be converted to these positions. Aluminium cable entry plates for single-core cables asan alternative option. The cables are connected using lugs and bolts. When connecting5-conductor cables you will need to remove the bridge between PE and N which will havebeen fitted prior to delivery.Figure 3-6Centre feed160 ... 400 A BD2.-400-ME630 ... 1000 A BD2.-1000-ME160...400 A BD2.-400-ME-MBAL630...1000 A BD2.-1000-ME-MBALImportant planning information:A centre feed might be the best option for the distribution of high powers with small busbarcross sections. It is mounted in the centre of a trunking run between two trunking units. Asingle power supply cable provides power to the left-hand and right-hand trunking runssimultaneously. This means, for example, that a 1000 A centre feed can feed in 2000 A. Insuch cases you need to pay particular attention to the busbar system's overload andshort-circuit protection. You will need to provide protective measures in the following instances:● If short-circuit protection is not being provided by the upstream protective device and/or● If the overload is not set by the type and number of loadsThere are two possible protective measures:1. Use a centre feed unit with one coupling unit on the left of the incoming feeder andanother on the right. The coupling unit is fitted with a protective device (fuse orcircuit-breaker) providing short-circuit and overload protection.2. Use two end feeder units located in the centre of the trunking run. The two supply linesare fused separately in the distribution system.Planning with SIVACON 8 PS46 Planning Manual, 10/2007, A5E01541101-01
