Such are theCalf, near the southern headl<strong>and</strong> of the Isle of Man, <strong>and</strong> the Cow <strong>and</strong> Calces at theentrance to Cork Harbour.<strong>The</strong> isl<strong>and</strong>s are most numerous <strong>and</strong> lofty in the northern province of Tromso,at several points continuing the true ridge of the mainl<strong>and</strong> far seawards. Thusthe Kjblen proper is low enough east of the chain of mountains forming the isl<strong>and</strong>ofSenjen<strong>and</strong> the Vester Aalen <strong>and</strong> Lofoten archipelagos, which project towardsthe south-west, gradually receding from the mainl<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong> thus forming a largeFig. 38.
