In the TTener basin are some places of importance,including Karlstad, capital of the province of "Wermland, at the mouth ofthe Klar-elf, standing on an island connected by two bridges with the shoreKristinchamn, at the north-east corner of the lake, which has recently acquired arapid development, due to its position at the junction of two main railway lines, andits trade in iron from Philipstad and the Persberg mines, the best in Sweden ;Mariestad and Lidk'&ping, on the south-east shore ; Wenershorg, on a peninsula atthe southern extremity, near the falls formed by the Gdta at its outflow from thelake.
