The overwhelming majority of companies are part of the smallcategory (over 90% at the level of each of the two counties) and companies with more than 250 employees tohave a share of 0.3%. Note that the number of enterprises in Dolj County represents more than double of thesimilar business f<strong>ro</strong>m Olt, except for large companies with over 250 employees.In the regional economic structure dominated by the active enterprises of tra<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng> domain (about 47% ofthe regional companies), followed by the tertiary sector. The mining industry has a share less than 1% of thetotal enterprises and the manufacturing sector recor<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>d 10% of all enterprises f<strong>ro</strong>m the two counties, beingvery different: food industry, clothing p<strong>ro</strong>duction, wood p<strong>ro</strong>cessing, manufacture of chemicals and chemicalp<strong>ro</strong>ducts, manufacture of rubber and plastics, metallurgy, steel construction, machinery and equipment, <strong>ro</strong>advehicles and <strong>ro</strong>ad transportation vehicles.Source: data p<strong>ro</strong>cessing INSSE Dolj and OltConcerning the Bulgarian part of the analyzed region - the three districts belonging to the North Westregion, the region with the lowest population and with a regional economy that represents about 8% of BulgarianGDP (the lowest of all regions of Bulgaria).

The agricultural sectoris also important for the region.The three districts of Vidin, Montana and Pleven have good competitive advantages within the regionparticularly in domains like energy, light industry, raw materials, services and tra<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>. To all these can be ad<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>dthe rural and ecological tourism and farming.The Capitals cities of the district play an important <strong>ro</strong>le in local <st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>velopment p<strong>ro</strong>viding app<strong>ro</strong>priate conditionsfor business and entrepreneurs.Vidin is one of the les <st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>veloped districts in terms of socio-economic. Here the economic <st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>nsity andthe presence of investments are very low. The analysis shows a predominance of the primary sector (culture ofcereals and technical plants, animal g<strong>ro</strong>wth and forestry activity). In the secondary sector it has been i<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ntifiedthe light industry.Analyzing the evolution of the number of enterprises in the North West region, which inclu<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>s the threecounties already analyzed, we can see that the trends show an increase f<strong>ro</strong>m 28,287 in 2008 to 29,201 in 2009.Although the numbers shows an increase, analyzing the number of enterprises as a percentage out of totalenterprises at national level, between 2008-2009 North West regions recor<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>d a <st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>crease f<strong>ro</strong>m 8.8% to 7.9%.The analysis of the data p<strong>ro</strong>vi<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>d by the Bulgarian Institute of National Statistics show that at the regionallevel it was recor<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>d in 2008 and 2009 the lowest number of enterprises compared with other <st<strong>ro</strong>ng>de</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>velopingregions of Bulgaria.Depending on class size (number of employees) in the North West region is observed the predominantsmall businesses with up to 9 employees - app<strong>ro</strong>x. 92% of all enterprises in the region.
