Suchconservation areas include the <strong>City</strong> Centre, Botchergate, Longtown, Brampton and Dalston.Listed BuildingThe Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, advised by English Heritage, compilesa list of buildings of ‘special architectural or historic interest’. Any material alteration to ordemolition/part demolition of a listed building, whether external or internal will require anapplication for listed building consent.<strong>Local</strong> Development Framework (LDF)A portfolio of local development documents which will provide the framework for deliveringthe Spatial Strategy for the <strong>District</strong>. This will come into place under the new <strong>Plan</strong>ning andCompulsory Purchase Act 2004<strong>Local</strong> Employment Sites<strong>Local</strong> Employment Sites are defined in the Structure <strong>Plan</strong> as employment sites designedto accommodate the needs of a wide range of types and sizes of employment andwarehousing units. They are expected to be more that one hectare in size, and located in oradjacent to the edge of the <strong>City</strong> and rural towns.<strong>Local</strong> Nature Reserves<strong>Local</strong> Nature Reserves may be established by <strong>Local</strong> Authorities under section 21 of theNational Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. They are habitats of localsignificance which can make a useful contribution both to nature conservation and to theopportunities for the public to learn more about and enjoy wildlife. <strong>Local</strong> nature reservesare predominantly ecological, but can also be established on geological sites.<strong>Local</strong> Transport <strong>Plan</strong>A five-year plan for the co-ordination and improvement of local transport provisionprepared by the County <strong>Council</strong> under the provisions of Section 108 of the transport Act2000, which provides a framework for the delivery of transport against a background of alonger term strategy for transport in the area.September 2006 143
