EPP 15<br />
This initiative aims to attract foreign direct investment in<br />
Agricultural Biotechnology to benefit the industry in multiple<br />
areas and to develop highly-skilled human capital. BiotechCorp<br />
was tasked with formulating packages to attract foreign direct<br />
investment and encourage domestic direct investment into<br />
this sector.<br />
Achievements<br />
Participation of MNCs<br />
In the area of domestic direct investment, BiotechCorp secured<br />
investments from Sabah Softwood Hybrid Fertiliser, a jointventure<br />
company between All Cosmos Industries Sdn Bhd<br />
(Taiwan) and Malaysian-based Sabah Softwood Bhd. The bioorganic<br />
fertiliser plant will operate in the Lahad Datu Palm Oil<br />
Industrial Cluster (POIC) with a total investment of RM50 million.<br />
EPP 16<br />
This EPP aims to secure supply of beef and cattle for local<br />
consumption and breeding at more profitable locations by<br />
encouraging the private sector to acquire stakes in foreign cattle<br />
companies. The project depends entirely on private investments<br />
of RM1.3 billion for over a 10-year period.<br />

Moving Forward<br />
The construction of the fertiliser plant is scheduled for<br />
completion in 2012. In continuing the programme, BiotechCorp<br />
needs to secure RM250 million in foreign and domestic direct<br />
investments in agriculture biotechnology for 2012, as well as<br />
ensuring the setting up of at least three more multinational<br />
companies by 2020.<br />

The ministry targets to secure more players to achieve the<br />

Moving Forward<br />
The target for 2012 is to generate RM42 million in revenue from<br />
the overseas ventures.
