Central branches to left side of the spinal cordComment: The anterior spinal artery supplies the anterior two thirdsof the spinal cord with blood. Full occlusion of this artery results inlocal damage to lower motor neurons (flaccid paralysis of innervatedmuscles with loss of tone and reflexes) in the affected territory andspastic quadriparesis or paraparesis, depending on the level, fromdisruption of descending corticospinal and rubrospinal tracts inthe lateral funiculus, affecting muscles for which the lower motorneurons are still intact and functional. Damage to the lateral funiculusproduces loss of pain and temperature sensation (anterolateralfuniculus) and loss of bowel and bladder control (disruption ofdescending autonomic fibers in the lateral funiculus).Overview of the Nervous System See book 7.20
