Motor fibers in the basis pontisComment: Diffusion-tensor imaging (DTI), or diffusion-weightedimaging, provides pseudocolor depiction of axonal pathways andfibers on the basis of the anisotropic diffusion of water evaluated inthe form of a tensor. This permits three-dimensional reconstructionof axonal pathways on the basis of eigenvectors of the diffusiontensor. In this schema, green represents association pathways, redrepresents commissural pathways, and blue represents projectionpathways. In these images, axonal components of several longassociation pathways, including the cingulum, the superiorlongitudinal fasciculus, the inferior longitudinal fasciculus, and theuncinate fasciculus, can be identified. Commissural fibers of thecorpus callosum and many projection fibers (internal capsule, fornix)and brain stem tracts (superior cerebellar peduncle, middle cerebellarpeduncle, dorsal column system, corticospinal tract) also are visiblewith this extraordinary technique.Regional Neuroscience See book 13.29
