A pontine hemorrhage can result inthe rapid progression of total paralysis (quadriplegia), decerebrateposturing (upper motor neuron damage disinhibiting the lateralvestibular nuclei), coma, paralysis of ocular movements, and smallbut reactive pupils. A large infarct in the basilar artery may producethe same clinical picture. Some small lacunar infarcts may occur inthe pons and may produce motor symptoms (corticospinal system)and/or ataxia (cerebellar peduncles, deep nuclei).Regional Neuroscience See book 11.8
