Interventricular foramen of MonroComment: The great cerebral vein of Galen is a site of convergenceof venous drainage from the anterior cerebral vein and basal veinof Rosenthal and its branches, the posterior mesencephalic vein,cerebellar veins, the internal cerebral vein and its branches (anteriorseptal vein, thalamostriate vein), atrial veins, pericallosal veins, andothers. The great cerebral vein and inferior sagittal sinus unite toform the straight sinus. Many of these draining veins follow thecontours of the ventricles as they converge toward the great cerebralvein of Galen. Blockage or occlusion of a vein can result in backupof perfusion with resultant ischemia of the tissue in the region ofdrainage.Overview of the Nervous System See book 7.25
