Globose nucleusComment: The ICP conveys extensive afferents to the cerebellum(cortex and deep nuclei) from the spinocerebellar system, reticularformation, vestibular system, and trigeminal system; it alsoconveys efferents from the fastigial nucleus and the flocculonodularlobe to upper motor neusons (UMNs) of the vestibulospinal andreticulospinal systems. The MCP mainly conveys afferents to thecerebellum from the corticopontocerebellar system. The SCPconveys selective afferents to the cerebellum from the ventralspinocerebellar tract, some trigeminal input, tectocerebellar input,and coeruleocerebellar noradrenergic projections; it also conveysextensive efferents from the globose, emboliform, and dentatenuclei to the red nucleus and ventral lateral thalamus to regulate therubrospinal and corticospinal UMN systems.The vascular supply to the cerebellum comes mainly from thesuperior, anterior inferior, and posterior inferior cerebellar arteries.The cerebellum is prone to intracerebral bleeds and hematomas.Damage from specific focal lesions is ipsilateral; space-occupyingmasses may induce herniation and more general symptoms ofincreased intracranial pressure.Regional Neuroscience See book 11.36
