Radial nerveComment: The median nerve supplies motor innervation to flexorsof the fingers, abductors and opponens muscles of the thumb,and pronators of the forearm. The median nerve supplies sensoryinnervation to the palmar surface of the hand (thumb, index finger,middle finger, and half of the fourth finger). The median nerve isvulnerable to trapping by the flexor retinaculum in the forearm(carpal tunnel syndrome), resulting in weakness of flexion of thefingers; weakness in abducting and opposition of the thumb; andwasting of the thenar muscles. Carpal tunnel syndrome results inpain and paresthesias (or sometimes loss of sensation) in the radialdistribution of the hand.
