Frontal pole (horn) of lateral ventricleComment: The lenticulostriate arteries are thin, penetratingbranches of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) that arise shortly afterthe MCA branches from the internal carotid artery. These arteriespenetrate into the basal ganglia and internal capsule; they are afrequent site of cerebral infarcts and have been called the “arteriesof stroke.” A stroke affecting these arteries can produce a classicalcontralateral hemiplegia with hypertonus and hyperreflexia, oftenaffecting the upper extremity more severely than other regions. Sucha stroke on the left may be accompanied by expressive aphasia ifthe stroke extends distally.Overview of the Nervous System See book 7.7
