In the fields of Architecture, Planning and Design, our faculty is an<br />

institution of education and research that is recognized nationally<br />

and internationally and that has its originality. In this regard, our<br />

primary goal is to provide a qualified education in each department<br />

of our faculty in order to educate our students to become professionals<br />

who are knowledgeable in their fields, who can use their creativity,<br />

who can define problems by thinking rationally and inquisitive, who<br />

can solve problems, and who are successful in the national as well<br />

as international scope. In the departments of our faculty, a “studentcentered”<br />

educational philosophy has been adopted in undergraduate<br />

education which is carried out mainly in design and planning studios.<br />

In order to provide our students with the ability to establish relationships<br />

with international professional environments as our graduates, the<br />

undergraduate education is carried out in English at a rate of 30 percent<br />

in the Department of Architecture and 100 percent in the Department of<br />

City and Regional Planning. In our faculty, in addition to the student and<br />

academic staff exchange agreements made within the framework of the<br />

Erasmus program, special attention is paid to international collaborations<br />

in the fields of education and research. Moreover, international workshops<br />

are organized within the scope of these collaborations.<br />

<strong>Mersin</strong> <strong>University</strong> Faculty of Architecture, with its well-equipped and<br />

dynamic academic staff, carries out educational and research activities that<br />

aim at planning, designing and producing qualified cities, environments and<br />

buildings that are liveable and sustainable with high design value at a universal<br />

level as well as protecting cultural and natural environmental values.<br />

As for the physical facilities of our faculty, there are 14 Classrooms,<br />

15 Studios, two Computer Laboratories, three Exhibition Halls, two<br />

Seminar Halls and one Conference Hall with a capacity of 170 people.<br />

Information on Academic and Administrative Staff<br />

In our faculty, there are 24 academic staff, of whom five are Associate<br />

Professors, 11 are lecturers Ph.D. and eight are lecturers. Moreover,<br />

there are 11 administrative staff who carry out administrative duties.<br />

Students have the opportunity to take an active part in many national<br />

and international studies and events in the field of architecture.<br />

Opportunities for Postgraduate Education<br />

The Master’s program in Conservation of Cultural Heritage started in<br />

2015 in the Institute of Science at <strong>Mersin</strong> <strong>University</strong>. The program aims<br />

to provide individuals from different professions with a specialization in<br />

the conservation of cultural heritage through interdisciplinary studies.<br />

The doctorate program in Media, Culture and Urban Studies is carried<br />

out in the Institute of Social Sciences at <strong>Mersin</strong> <strong>University</strong>. The program<br />

aims to train academicians and researchers who have the skills in and<br />

qualifications for working in the intersection areas of Radio, Television<br />

and Cinema, Journalism, Political Science, Public Administration,<br />

Architecture, City and Regional Planning, Philosophy and Sociology.<br />

Many national and international cooperation, projects and consultancy<br />

studies are carried out in the department.<br />

Opportunities for Students<br />

Undergraduate and graduate education is carried out in equipped<br />

studios, laboratories and classrooms in the Faculty of Architecture.<br />

There are wide interiors and open spaces within the faculty building.<br />

The Amphitheatre and Exhibition Hall of the Faculty of Architecture<br />

can be used for international and national events and scientific<br />

meetings. There is a Computer Workshop in the faculty that can<br />

be used by students. In addition, a Laboratory of Geographical<br />

Information Systems was established in order to ensure the effective<br />

use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), whose use has become<br />

increasingly widespread in the field of City and Regional Planning.<br />

Opportunities for Postgraduate Education<br />

The Master’s program in City and Regional Planning started in the<br />

2010-2011 academic year. The program aims to become the focus<br />

on developing innovative strategies for research, education, policy<br />

development and implementation with regard to the topics related<br />

to the process of city and regional planning as well as the process of<br />

structuring space at a local, regional and country scale.<br />

The journal titled “Sketch: Journal of City and Regional Planning”,<br />

which is an international peer-reviewed journal, has been published by<br />

the Department of City and Regional Planning since 2019. The detailed<br />
