Upon completion of the mathematics major, students will be able to<br />

• use mathematical methods to solve quantitative problems<br />

• write a valid proof of a mathematical statement<br />

• present a coherent explanation of mathematical work to a group of peers<br />

MA 207 and MA 209 may not both count toward the mathematics major.<br />

A student may be exempt from MA 207, MA 231, and MA 232 by placement,<br />

AP credit, or IB credit.<br />

Students planning on graduate study in pure mathematics are encouraged to take<br />

MA 317, MA 451, MA 455, MA 458, MA 461, and MA 499. Those planning<br />

graduate work in applied mathematics are encouraged to take MA 305, MA 317,<br />

MA 321, MA 441, MA 451, MA 454, MA 461, MA 472, PH 121, and PH 122.<br />
