ED 210 WR Curriculum Design (1)<br />
Introduces the principles of curriculum design and development, including learning<br />
theory, instructional strategies, lesson planning, classroom management, assessment<br />
approaches; and process, determinants, and organization of curricula found in public and<br />
private schools. This course includes working with children with special needs. A<br />
Writing Reinforcement and Leadership Studies designated course. Prerequisite: at least<br />
one year of college coursework.<br />
ED 216 IA Tough Topics: Equity, Justice, and Representation in Children’s and<br />
Young Adult Literature (1)<br />
An exploration of tough topics as they are addressed in picture books, novels, and nonfiction<br />
texts written for children or adolescents. Considerable attention is given to using<br />
literature to help young people develop a deeper understanding of social justice, equity,<br />
and representation. An Interpretation and Analysis designated course.<br />
ED 219 CE Creative Arts in Teaching (1)<br />
Provides pre-service teachers with techniques for integrating music, art, drama, and<br />
movement into classroom instruction in grades K-6. A Creative Expression designated<br />
course. Prerequisite: at least one year of college coursework.<br />
ED 293, 393, 493 Independent Study in Education (½ or 1)<br />
Directed study for advanced students in the major. Specific guidelines concerning<br />

An internship opportunity allowing students to practice career skills and/or further<br />

ED 298, 398, 498 Teaching Experience in Education (½ or 1)<br />
A contracted teaching experience that requires instructor approval. Specific guidelines<br />

ED 299 Exploring Teaching (1)<br />
A field-based Exploration term project that requires observation and participation in<br />
classrooms at the elementary, middle-school, or high-school level. Specific requirements<br />
