ARB 201 Intermediate Arabic I (1)<br />
A course that reviews basic grammar and pronunciation concepts from Elementary<br />
Arabic, builds more vocabulary, and further develops language skills, with focus on<br />
additional exposure to Arabic culture and traditions. Prerequisite: ARB 102 or ARB 190.<br />
ARB 202 Intermediate Arabic II (1)<br />
An introduction to more complex grammatical structures and solidification of vocabulary<br />
to perfect the use of formal or Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). Extensive exposure to<br />
subjects relevant to Arabic culture and traditions, including famous Arab writers, their<br />
biographies, and their contributions to the field of literature. Prerequisite: ARB 201.<br />
ARB 270 Conversational Arabic (1)<br />
Instruction and practice in oral comprehension and speaking, with conversations based on<br />
texts, videos, and news articles. The course emphasizes speaking proficiency and<br />
awareness of Arabic culture. Prerequisite: ARB 202 or equivalent language proficiency.<br />
ARB 280 GP Human Rights in the Muslim World (1)<br />
An examination of the issue of human rights in the context of Muslim majority countries<br />
with a particular focus on the Arabic-speaking world. A Global Perspectives designated<br />
course.<br />
ARB 293, 393, 493 Independent Study in Arabic (½ or 1)<br />
Directed study for advanced students. Specific guidelines concerning independent study<br />
projects appear in the “Exploration Term and Contract Learning” section of this catalog.<br />
ARB 297, 397, 497 Internship in Arabic (½ or 1)<br />
An internship opportunity allowing students to practice career skills and/or further<br />
develop abilities beneficial for graduate study. Specific guidelines concerning internships<br />
appear in the “Exploration Term and Contract Learning” section of this catalog.<br />
ARB 298, 398, 498 Teaching Experience in Arabic (½ or 1)<br />
A contracted teaching experience that requires instructor approval. Specific guidelines<br />
concerning teaching experiences appear in the “Teaching Experiences” section of this<br />
catalog.<br />
ARB 300 Advanced Conversational Arabic (1)<br />
An advanced conversation course that further develops speaking and listening<br />
comprehension skills. Various topics and stories from Arabic-speaking countries are<br />
addressed through video and audio recordings. Prerequisite: ARB 270 or equivalent<br />
language proficiency.<br />
ARB 310 Reading Media Arabic (1)<br />
A course that further develops language skills for reading newspapers, magazines, and<br />
internet content about the latest headlines, trending topics, and stories from Arabicspeaking<br />
countries. Prerequisites: ARB 201 and ARB 202 or instructor consent.<br />
