HON 247 IA An Arthurian Primer (1)<br />
An investigation of three prominent strands of the Arthurian legend: the Grail quest, the<br />
adulterous love of Lancelot and Guinevere, and Arthur as the Once and Future King.<br />
Resources in literature, history, and visual art will be brought together to study how these<br />
Arthurian motifs have been used artistically and socially to promote cultural ideal from<br />
medieval England and France to contemporary America. An Interpretation or Analysis<br />
designated course. Prerequisite: Harrison Honors Program.<br />
HON 250 GP History of Documentary Film (1)<br />
An introductory survey of documentary film. The course will focus on some of the major<br />
developments in documentary practice, while also considering a number of theoretical<br />
issues in the documentary tradition, including the problem of objectivity, the relationship<br />
between the documentary image and reality, and the mixing of fiction and nonfiction<br />
modes. The goals of this course are to introduce students to important historical trends<br />
and concepts and to help develop the critical and analytical skills needed to understand<br />
the structure, style, and rhetorical strategies of documentary film. A Global Perspectives<br />
and Leadership Studies designated course. (Also listed as MFS 250.) Prerequisite:<br />
Harrison Honors Program.<br />
HON 261 CI The Slave Narrative and Its Legacies (1)<br />
An exploration of the African-American literary canon beginning with autobiographies<br />
written by formerly enslaved people. Subsequent texts comment in some way upon the<br />
American slave experience or otherwise relate to those earlier writers. A Community<br />
Interests and Leadership Studies designated course. (Also listed as EH 261.) Prerequisite:<br />
Harrison Honors Program.<br />

Directed study for Harrison Honors Scholars. Interested students should consult with the<br />

HON 295 IA Greek Drama and Democracy (1)<br />
A seminar that examines how ancient Greek drama developed in conversation with the<br />
development of Athenian democracy. Students will read a selection of tragedies and<br />
comedies composed in Athens in the fifth century BCE alongside poetic, philosophical,<br />
and historical works written by contemporary ancient Greek thinkers in order to consider<br />
how the plays reflect, explore, criticize, and ennoble the social, political, and religious<br />
ideologies of democratic Athens. An Interpretation or Analysis designated course. (Also<br />
listed as GRS 295.) Prerequisite: Harrison Honors Program.<br />
HON 298, 398, 498 Teaching Experience in Honors (½ or 1)<br />
A contracted teaching experience course. Specific guidelines concerning teaching<br />
experiences appear in the “Teaching Experiences” section of this catalog. HON credit for<br />
teaching experience may count toward the five required units in Honors seminars.<br />
