MED – Music Education<br />
MED 331 Elementary School Music Methods (½)<br />
Classroom procedures in elementary school music, including song materials, recordings,<br />
technology, characteristics of elementary school students, scheduling, equipment, and<br />
teacher qualifications. Prerequisite: MU 152.<br />
MED 335 Secondary School Music Methods (½)<br />
Classroom procedures in music for high school, including song materials, recordings,<br />
characteristics of high school students, scheduling, equipment, technology, and teacher<br />
qualifications. Prerequisite: MU 152.<br />
MED 341 String Methods (¼)<br />
An introduction to the design, basic playing techniques, care and pedagogy for teaching<br />
string instruments to others. Principally intended for students in the music education<br />
degree program, but open to others by consent.<br />
MED 343 Woodwind Methods (¼)<br />
A study in basic performance techniques for teaching and demonstrating standard<br />
woodwind instrumental performance to students. Required for all students in the music<br />
education degree program, but open to others by consent.<br />
MED 345 Brass Methods (¼)<br />
Methods of basic instruction and rehearsal techniques for brass instruments. Students<br />
will have an opportunity to work with professionals and discuss performing with brass<br />
instrumentalists in different settings. The course will provide instruction on major brass<br />
repertoire as well as other important musical works that include brass instruments.<br />
Required for all students in the music education degree program, but open to others by<br />
consent.<br />
MED 347 Percussion Methods (¼)<br />
Basic principles and techniques of percussion performance; care, selection, and design<br />
principles of percussion instruments. Instructional materials and methods, as well as<br />
experience in peer teaching is a component. Required for all students in the music<br />
education degree program, but open to others by consent.<br />
MED 414 Teaching Internship VI (1½)<br />
A full-time observed teaching internship under the supervision of a certified music<br />
educator and the College supervisor. Instructor consent required. Prerequisite: admission<br />
to the Teacher Education Program.<br />
MED 415 Teaching Internship VII (1½)<br />
A full-time observed teaching internship under the supervision of a certified music<br />
educator and the College supervisor. Instructor consent required. Prerequisite: admission<br />
to the Teacher Education Program.<br />
