ARH - Art History<br />
ARH 175 ES Leonardo da Vinci: Art, Science, and Myth (1)<br />
An exploration of the works of Leonardo da Vinci, with emphasis on his interdisciplinary<br />
approach to creative and scientific endeavors, and his place in the broader “myth” of<br />
artistic genius. An Explorations in Scholarship designated course.<br />
ARH 177, 277, 377, 477 Special Topics in Art History (1)<br />
An exploration of a selected topic or problem in art history. This course may be repeated<br />
for credit provided that the topics explored in each course are different. Prerequisite:<br />
ARH 215 or ARH 216 for ARH 277, ARH 377, and ARH 477.<br />
ARH 215 GP, IA Introduction to Art History: Ancient to Medieval (1)<br />
A digital-slide course that provides the general student as well as the art and art history<br />
major with an introduction to the language and methodology of art history. Focus is<br />
placed on stylistic development and its relation to cultural and historical contexts. Objects<br />
studied include prehistoric cave paintings, Egyptian pyramids, ancient Greek sculpture,<br />
and the cathedrals of medieval Europe. A Global Perspectives and Interpretation or<br />
Analysis designated course.<br />
ARH 216 GP, IA Introduction to Art History: Renaissance to the Present (1)<br />
A digital-slide course that provides the general student as well as the art and art history<br />
major with an introduction to the language and methodology of art history. Focus is<br />
placed on stylistic development and its relation to cultural and historical contexts. Artists<br />
studied include Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Monet, Picasso, Dali, and O’Keeffe. A Global<br />
Perspectives and Interpretation or Analysis designated course.<br />
ARH 250 WR The Art of Art History (1)<br />
A discussion course designed for beginning students in art and art history. Students are<br />
introduced to the language and methods of verbal and written visual analysis, and to<br />
political and social issues surrounding the production and consumption of art today. A<br />
Writing Reinforcement designated course.<br />
ARH 293, 393, 493 Independent Study in Art History (½ or 1)<br />
Directed study for advanced students in the major. Specific guidelines concerning<br />
independent study projects appear in the “Exploration Term and Contract Learning”<br />
section of this catalog.<br />
ARH 297, 397, 497 Internship in Art History (½ or 1)<br />
An internship opportunity allowing students to practice career skills and/or further<br />
develop abilities beneficial for graduate study. Specific guidelines concerning internships<br />
appear in the “Exploration Term and Contract Learning” section of this catalog.<br />
