Slaughterhouse Five. The course examines a variety of movements for social change<br />
within the historical contexts of the American Revolution, the antebellum period, the<br />
progressive era, and the 1960s. A Community Interests and Leadership Studies<br />
designated course.<br />
EH 230 Plural America I (1)<br />
An introduction to the plurality of the American culture from within the liberal arts<br />
traditions of history and literature. The intent is to recognize the aspects of other cultures<br />
appropriated into the Western tradition but often either unacknowledged or glossed over.<br />
The end should be an appreciation of the achievements and limitations of our Western<br />
heritage, and a heightened sensitivity to the cultural diversity of the world-at-large. This<br />
course focuses on Native American and Chicano history and literature, and on the<br />
European context of American society. (Also listed as HON 230.) Prerequisite: EH 102<br />
or EH 208.<br />
EH 231 Plural America II (1)<br />
An introduction to the plurality of the American culture from within the liberal arts<br />

EH 232 CI Eighteenth-Century Black Lives (1)<br />
A study of literary representations of Black life and experience at the height of the slave<br />
trade and the movement toward abolition, with an emphasis on how anti-slavery<br />
movements abroad impacted those in America. At its core, the course examines the<br />
transformation of attitudes toward the legitimacy of un-free labor. A Community<br />
Interests, Black Studies, and Leadership Studies designated course.<br />
EH 234 IA The Animal, Ethics, and Animality (1)<br />
A survey of influential fictional and short nonfictional works that concern the animal.<br />
Students will read works of fiction that alternately take the question of the animal for<br />
granted, foreground the presence and importance of animals in human lives, as well as<br />
argue for their consideration as active participation in human history as agents. An<br />
Interpretation or Analysis designated course. Prerequisite: EH 102 or EH 208.<br />
EH 235 CI EL Queer Archives and Digital History: Punks, Artists, and<br />
Revolutionaries (1)<br />
An introduction to queer theory; archival research; and the history, social context, and<br />
political implications of the formation of queer archives. A Community Interests and<br />
Experiential Learning designated course. A service-learning integrated course.<br />
Prerequisite: EH 102 or EH 208, or instructor consent.<br />
