GRS 268 GP Environmental Thought in Antiquity (1)<br />
An introduction to ancient ideas about nature, animals, climate, and the role humans<br />
should play in such systems. The course will explore how cultures from ancient Greece to<br />
early modern Europe conceptualize the relationship between mankind and the natural<br />
world and how changes in the environment affected human development and political<br />
systems. A Global Perspectives designated course. (Also listed as EH 268.)<br />
GRS 293, 393, 493 Independent Study in Greek and Roman Studies (½ or 1)<br />

GRS 295 IA Greek Drama and Democracy (1)<br />
A seminar that examines how ancient Greek drama developed in conversation with the<br />
development of Athenian democracy. Students will read a selection of tragedies and<br />
comedies composed in Athens in the fifth century BCE alongside poetic, philosophical,<br />
and historical works written by contemporary ancient Greek thinkers in order to consider<br />
how the plays reflect, explore, criticize, and ennoble the social, political, and religious<br />
ideologies of democratic Athens. An Interpretation or Analysis designated course. (Also<br />

An internship opportunity allowing students to practice career skills and/or further<br />

An exploration of a selected topic or problem in gender and women studies.<br />
GWS 200 Introduction to Gender and Women Studies (1)<br />
An introduction to the concepts and issues concerning the field of gender and women<br />
studies. Placed within a historical and contemporary context, students examine topics<br />
ranging from feminist philosophy, gender roles and stereotypes, gender development,<br />
sexuality and relationships, sexual identity, workplace issues, legal challenges, women in<br />
media, violence against women, and global feminism.<br />
