5. NO PLACE FOR FEAR Down through the years, as I minister to precious people, I have seen how fear can creep in when someone is diagnosed with a condition or when loved ones develop serious illnesses. If you know someone who is experiencing this, you can encourage them with this verse from 2 Timothy, which declares that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1:7). Because of what Jesus did on the cross, we do not have to remain apprehensive, but can trust the Lord to come to a place where there is no room in our hearts for fear, knowing that His perfect love drives out every fear from our hearts (1 John 4:18).
HIS PERFECT LOVE DRIVES OUT EVERY FEAR FROM OUR HEARTS. I understand that finding out you or your loved one has a medical condition can be frightening. Maybe you have just discovered in your body a lump that was never there before, or you can no longer ignore worrying symptoms like the pain that won’t go away, the blurred vision you keep experiencing, or the waves of nausea that have been hitting you. Maybe your thoughts are completely out of control and you cannot help but imagine the worst as you await the results of yet another round of MRI scans, blood work, or other tests you don’t understand. Maybe you have already been given a diagnosis and it is worse than what you had imagined. Now it feels like you cannot breathe, and you are trying your best not to panic, but it is so hard. Questions
