What the children of Israel had was just the
shadow. What we have under the new covenant
inaugurated by His shed blood is the substance. It
was not by coincidence our Lord Jesus instituted the
holy Communion on the same night He celebrated
the Passover (Matt. 26:17–29; Mark 14:12–25; Luke
22:7–20). The apostle Paul referred to Him as
“Christ, our Passover Lamb” (1 Cor. 5:7 NLT)
because His sacrifice on the cross was the fulfillment
and fullness of the Passover the children of Israel
had been celebrating for generations.
“WHY IS THIS NIGHT DIFFERENT
FROM ALL OTHER NIGHTS?”
I mentioned earlier that during the Passover
celebrations each year, the children ask their elders,
“Why is this night different from all other nights?”
When you partake of the holy Communion, ask
yourself the same question: Why is this night
different from all other nights?
It might not be nighttime when you are partaking
of the holy Communion, but as you partake, you are
remembering what happened when our Lord Jesus
was nailed to the cross, suspended between heaven
