The Hebrew word for health is marpe’, which also means “a medicine” or “a cure.” 1 Notice Proverbs 4:22 says “health to all their flesh.” Unlike many medications, the Word of God does not benefit one part of your body only to harm another part. It is health to your nose, to your knees, to your inner ear, to your intestines, to your skin—to all your flesh. The Bible also declares that the Word of God is “living and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow” (Heb. 4:12). It is the opposite of death, and it is powerful. No wonder our Lord Jesus, when explaining the parable of the sower, tells us that when the sower sows the Word, “Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts” (Mark 4:15).
